Mine are eating fine after a couple of hours. Very fast and lots of jumping. Now to get my second system built before they are to big.

Mine got delivered at lunch time. I tried to feed them about 2hrs later. A couple of fish went for the pellets after they sunk down, but otherwise they were not interested.

I tried again about 6hrs after delivery. A few more came to the surface to attack the food, but it was still a bit half hearted.

I'll try them again tomorrow morning and see if they are feeling hungry.

One thing I also noticed is they didn't want to come up to the surface while I was hovering over the tank (can't really blame them). When I stepped back a bit and tossed the feed in, they were a bit more interested.

It seems that Fisheries Dept have been so inundated with translocation permit forms that they have now got the ball rolling to simplify the process of translocating fish for aquaponics. Nothing has been endorsed yet but the plan is to grant automatic approval for hobby aquaculturists for species on the white list (Trout, Barra & Silver Perch) providing the applicant abides by certain criteria. If I get approval for Jades anyone wanting them would have to go thru the current translocation process.

Not surprised at all!! We put in three applications ourselves, one each for perch, barra and trout, and I bet we are not alone with that!

Sometimes you just have to play the game first, to make the game manufacturers realize the game is broken..

They will be very busy if everybody is sticking strictly to the letter of their approval:

"Approval is subject to the following conditions:
1. At least 48 hours prior to the collection of the fish the Department of Fisheries Translocation Officer shall be informed in writing of the date, time, collection point and mode of transport of the fish to the receiving facility..."

I predict that next year aquaponics will be exempted from the approvals process...

Thats the spirit, the more they get inundated with applications the sooner they will change the process.
