Just out of curiousity, where has everyone been getting their ball valves from and what sort of price should I be looking at?

Check larger plumbing suppliers like Reece and Tradelink for prices on plated metal ball valves - you will be surprised how cheap they are. I can't quote current prices because it's been a while since my last buying spree, but I got 15mm ball valves for around $7.50 12 months ago.
I'm using 20 mm plastic ball valves from M10, B, and Stratco, about $4.50 each from the irrigation section.

I have in-stock PVC Ball valves
1/2" bsb = 4.00
3/4" bsb = 6.00
1" bsb = 8.00
1 1/4" = 11.00
Only trouble is paying the post, if you needed 5 or 6 of them then it would be worth it.
Also Bronz , chrome plated with stainless handle 3/4" = 19.50

not wishing to be commercial, but if you really can't get them then here is a source. www.aquaponics.net.au

Typed out a beautiful reply and couldn't have hit the "GO" button

Lived at Rockbank (you mentioned Deer Park once) - not far from Sunbury :sunny:

(that's probably not an appropriate emoticon when referring to Melbourne  )
