How well do AP onions store? Do their skins cure properly?

Hey CC......

I think they store just fine.. since they are growing above the gravel the outer skins automatically start to toughen up....

when I harvest them, I hang them up for a week to help the outside dry out even more...

I have notice that the onions you buy in the supermarket have a very sharp taste and the AP onions are much milder and have more moisture in them

I saw a small bit of a TV show that was talking about Onions and how they are growing onions that are sweeter than normal and have less of a CRY factor/irritant.. It seems the sulphur they take up give them a greater amount of the chemical that cause your eyes to irritate..

Other than that I going to try Onions myself..

JT, I just read through your massive thread. Very impressive! I am curious to know if you use anything to glue your Affnan siphons, or if they are just pressed together.

Hey Ron....

nope.... the affnan's are just friction fitted... I only glue the pressure side...

I do use some stainless steel screws on some of the gravity pipes, especially ones that have a tendency to get bumped ..

Hey JT,
Amazing harvest...as usual!

Juergen,
I live in sweet onion country, Vidalia GA. I have some sweet onion seeds but they are the commercial seeds, pre-treated with chemicals etc...else I would send you some. From what I understand it is the soil as much as the seed that makes the sweetness of the onion. i.e you can the right seeds but in a different area and they wont taste the same.

I decided to take out the old glass feeder tank over my 600 gallon fish tank.... and replace it with 3 NFT pipes....

following will be a photo journey on my quest to get this set up...

I think I will need a header tank of some sort so that the roots dont dry out
between my timed flood and drain sessions....
