Ok guys I need some info.....

I got some plumbing supplies today, but what I need to know is do you have to use pressure pipe and fittings. I thought it might be better than normal stuff,ie no toxins??? Just a lot more expensive.

And also I had a look at a few pumps but most said not safe for drinking water?? Yet the sump pumps did not say this. And seems that they are cheaper than a fountain pump. Can I just use a sump pump and tie the float up. And does I matter weather it's for clean or dirty water.
The clean water ones say it can handle up to 5mm particles.seems ok.

Thanks

50 is OK but everything I read 90 would be better. I use 90 and I am amazed by the rubbish that lifts up from the bottom of the tank, leaves etc.

90 ay? I've read a few using 70. I guess it's also got to keep up with what your sump pump is pumping aswell.

Did you use pressure pipe?

This is the stuff you use for downpipes. The ones going into most rainwater tanks.

I think the 90mm storm water stuff used to have a problem with leaching years ago, but not any more.

These are the kind of pump you want
Most people aim to turn over the volume of their FT every hour, but given your approach to your first system I get the feeling you will be expanding soon, so I'm guessing a bigger pump than you need at the moment might be worth a look.

Having said that, these threads are worth a look for a low energy approach (5watts instead of 60+)...

viewtopic.php?f=18&t=11703

and others... (sorry people I forgot which ones I just put up :) )

And this BYAP system trials thread on the different approaches as to siphon vrs standpipe vrs constant flood is a must read.

Thanks BW. Just spewing everything is closed.... Think I say this every Easter.lol. I did read many threads regarding PVC, but as always no clear answer. But heard from a few now that storm water PVC is safe. Still I think I'll use pressure pipe for things I need to drill through ie standpipe and SLO. but think I'll stay away from poly pipe.

I also have read the byap trials and I think a standpipe seems more reliable (flame suit on) and seems to be what most people use. Once my basic system is setup I'll do my own testing to see what works for me.

I'm so keen to start today I'm thinking of using my house sump pump to get things started but the weather today is strange and feels like it's about to rain. And it's very powerful. Proably blow the pipes apart.lol.

Yep expansion is already on the cards. But I'll have to rip up my veggie patch, and there's a lot of produce growing for winter. So my lawn might be taken over in the short term. :D :D

I mentioned to another member about a Adelaide meet up and BBQ. Exchange ideas etc. Good place for us newbies to learn from the pros.
I've been doing a lot of work at sejins place with his Eco vision stuff and have been asking him many questions when I should have been working.lol. He must be getting sick of me. Gotta share the love around...

I'd be interested in a meetup / BBQ sometime, and am happy to host when I've finished expanding my system.

Well after some thinking liquid,i worked out I need a t and ball valve in my sump so I can adjust the flow rate going to my ft. the pump is variable but who wants to put their hand in the cold water and I might aswell use the extra flow for some aeration.
