Just got a couple of IBC's from there yesterday.. They still had the PVA ones, and was offered various other not 100% ones with rusty cages or broken wooden pallet bases on them or bad staining, for various prices between $50-130..

picked my 2 IBC's today. :headbang:

to confirm $33 each ($30+GST) and they have only been used once for water based PVA glue which is apparently non toxic. he has a whole pile of them there at the moment and apparently gets them in quite regularly. he was going to show me other ones but i was pretty keen only on these and the little bit of glue ive pulled off by hand around the lid/cap comes off easily.

thanks again DunderOZ for the top tip :thumbleft: :notworthy: :thumbright:

From memory, the $160 ones were 'food grade' ones, that did not need any special cleaning.

They also had 1200 litres IBCs for around $130 but did not know what had been in them, so a bit risky..

Hampden, near Eudunda only got a small system will look at upsizing when i can get some spare cash together, mainly having trouble working out what fish to go with as I have big swings in weather over winter and summer, and I would like to keep just one type of fish.

Any idea would be helpful

hi Gotchy and welcome to BYAP
im no fish expert, one of them will probably be along later to give a better explanation but from what ive learnt silver perch are the best year round fish dealing ok with the temp swings we get here but grow slower than some other types. or you can grow out trout in the winter then barra in the summer, this is what im going to try (i think, ive not got fish yet either). trout and barra grow a lot faster than silvers.

I had an email from Stuart today that he has no fish. 1Aquaponics is showing they have SP on their site. I've emailed Andrew to see how much they are.

It appears 1aquaponics want to sell in a min of 50 fish, seeing as I am in the market for 20-30 I am happy to split 50 with someone.

You wont if you do your preperation and stock accordingly.

So many times I hear this and quite honestly its starting to bug me...follow the guidelines we provide and fish losses will be avoided.

Trout are probably the hardest fish to do in a new system and I seriously dont want to see people writing in about loosing 50 here 100 there this year.

Stock low and take it slow people.

Sounds a bit like your having a go mate. You can do everything right and still have 1 or 2 lost now and then when adding new fish. You cant gurantee that all the fish you are getting are healthy and strong. Or even DOA.

doing the correct procedures will lessen the risk but its not a perfect science.you cant put a gurantee on the process.all you can do is reduce the risk.

Ive setup many many new tanks, tropical and marine, not cold water though and not ap. I hope what I have learnt will transfer over.
And yes if done correct most of the time there wont be a issue.there are tricks to it. But you can always get weak or sick fish from a supplier and when added to any system the shock can be just too much.

I have never had the chance to try trout so I welcome your knowledge and might try sp for my first adventure into ap. so thanks for the tip.But I cant see how you can gurantee your procedures to have a 100% success rate when there are just too many variables.

Not having a go mate, but qouting me is not quite fair.Back in my prior life we had a acceptable mortality rate when getting new stock in and there was not much you could do about it.the % was very very low but it had to be taken into account in the end price.
nothing in life is certain except death and taxes.ahmen.
