Marron season is just silly nowadays, I haven't bothered going in years.. You know things aren't great when you have to stake out your area of shoreline by poking a stick into the ground , and you find lots of leftover bait in the water from previous people, including things like sausages and bits of old chops...

You really need to know somewhere on private property, or be prepared to walk for miles, otherwise you see nothing but littlies..

I hate it when you clearly mark out your spot, and some people who have no idea of fishing etiquette actually starting catching some where you got your bait. We had a group walk right up to where we were fishing, with their dog and kids splashing around, with a bucket full of undersized marron, with scoop nets in Waroona dam. God, I hope they got caught.

well i'm back folks. had a great time even though i had little success. only managed to snag 1 sized one.

the comments made buy eb and tim are spot on. there was so much activity around the water it was ridiculous. i agree, that when i go again, i will need to travel further out into hard to access places. should make the journey all the more rewarding if successful. i was actually considering hireling a canoe for a day to paddle out and find a spot.

unfortunately it appears that the ecosystems of the marron and other aquatic life, are being destroyed by greedy/ selfish/ uneducated fishers from the city. imo there needs to be a longer break between marron seasons. this would allow the whole eco system of life time to recover better. i would prefer to go every couple years then not at all. however the fisheries would loose that revenue used to help fund redevelopment. NOT. enough of the rant.

on another note i managed to collect a few shrimp which seem to be doing well in the system. i came across a number of other native fishes (didn't see the elusive cobbler). when marron season is over i will attempt to bring some of these back.

i'm all the more for the expirience and will be better prepared next time.

its good to be back only 3000+ posts later. hehe.

hope everyones well everyone.

Canoe is a fantastic Idea... Me and dad went up the blackwood one year for about an hour in our little dingy. Found a few good spots. The motor makes too much noise and wake, but we caught and ate a few on the river. We bought a one man canoe the following year, but never been since. In shallow areas you could possibly snare them from the canoe. With a motored boat you need to stop, get out, and wait for them the regroup.

It was so long ago, can't really remember... I think we somewhere between Bridgetown and boyup brook. Basically we tried a few spots during the night. All I remember it was very scary getting back, used two spoties either side of the river to keep to the middle.

lol, the best thing i have found for night fishing is a main roads orange flashing light( Don't tell em) at entry/exit point for the boat.
Oh and next time yourself or BF go on a expedition try Scarp pools near Dwellingup, don't go to main area but to the little feeder streams about 1/2km back, you might be surprised what you find

i'll get you a pic of the shrimp soon. i was surprised how large some of them are. imo they look like a very useful inclusion into the system. they look like ideal live food for my target species.

hey tim, you down for a road trip to scarp pools sometime? i get the impression you could teach me a lot.
