Thanks rsevs...
I have had egg shells and shell grit in the water part of the time to help with ph....
I don't think the roots "drying out" is a problem :D

I am wondering if having kale plants in the same system would make this problem worse. Since kale is supposed to be high in calcium...

Heirloom Romas ripening soon.. hopefully, lost a few to blossom end rot, lost a plant because I have no bloody idea, it had some small tomatoes growing but they had some brownish tinge to them and the plant stopped growing....?
Keep losing my larger spinach plants to bloody caterpillers, i think they are eating out the growing point, bastards could just stick to the leaves... I dipel once per week but doesnt seem enough.. Kale isnt doing so well, maybe lack of sun because of the tomatoes, but now showing some slight yellowing, been adding eco-rose, hydrated lime, and a little epsom salts. Stopped putting in seasol due to concerns over excess sodium (read some stuff explaining this). SP very happy, but water bit murky, not sure why !!

Oh and the dirt garden has carrots, coriander and kale coming up, also got some loofa/luffa sprouting.
