Hi there... I'm new to all this - first ran across mention of Aquaponics a few weeks back and got interested. I've downloaded a swag of stuff about it including videos of US systems in action.

I found the site from a link in a Google search that linked to a Melbourne meet-up so I figure I'm not on my pat here. :laughing3:

Looking forward to learning lots more about this - I'm going to try a backyard system. I've sourced some polycarbonate greenhouses that would give me either 7m or 8m x 2.5m x 2.5 (that's 23ft or 26ft x 8ft x 8ft in US lengths) with vents (some auto open) that look solid and well made. Price is between $1900 & $2000 - be interested if there is better than that available...

I'm still gathering info such as Council permissions etc. but I'm planning on solar powered pump with a backup so any info on electric pumps in Australia would be much appreciated.

I'll be searching the site but any links you can point me to would be helpful.

EDIT - came to realise how many Aussies on the forum so removed the ref to Australia from title

 Do I need a vaccine? Or just a good supplier... :laughing3:

I'm actually from Bendigo - I saw a number of US locations and figured none of them would know what a Bendigo is so I put Melbourne - should edit it... Hm... no Edit button once someone has replied - that would have been handy on another forum I am on.

Thanks for the welcome

I saw bendigo as your location in your profile info. I know there is a decent setup up in bendigo...just don't know much more than that about it, sorry

Hey Journeyman, and welcome.
There are quite few folk in Bendigo that have systems up and running. You are not alone :D

Thanks for the welcome - I found a couple of Bendigo folk with a search. Unfortunately the guy with the business in AP isn't any more. le sigh...

But I will look more and once I get started a journal to track progress seems the way to go.

Hi Porter, thanks for the welcome.

Once I get something happening I'll feel more like an APer. :) Until then it's learning curve time. I'm figuring I'm gonna have lotsa questions as I go.

I might even put in a request for places to visit to see how folks have solved their issues.

Cool - soon I will be wanting to come visit a bunch of people with up & running or even partial setups - as stated I am new to this so I want to get some first hand scopes on what can be done and how it works - learning all I can but videos and PDF's are no substitute for on site.

Not yet, but have just found his website based on your post. :D Based in Lower Plenty by the PO Box address? I presume he is on here - will have a search for his username and see what I can do about a visit.

AP seems to need some serious PR to happen - I'd never heard of it until a few weeks back when I ran into a ref to US AP almost by accident. :)

Hm... looking for dean as a username gave me 3 - with 1 post, 5 posts and 6 posts. None would appear to be growfresh dean... Back to try more...

Ah... Dean = Live Beyond... Me am smrt! :D
