Thank you for the link. It seems that the safest thing to do would be to raise local fish. I get kind of jealous of the Aussies talking about where they caught the yabbies they are raising. I think I have read some threads where they are raising fish they caught. It makes me wonder how practical that would be in SoCal. I can think of a few well stocked resivours around.

If I were in SoCal, I'd be looking to make a trip to the Salton Sea for my tilapia. #js

Thanks so much Todd! No wonder I was getting such conflicting information! That's a big concern off of my back haha. And thanks for the recommendation I think I'm going to be purchasing from White Brook when the temperatures get just a little bit warmer.

Welcome Bashedinfender, Bakersfield has the benefit of having a Tractor Supply. From what I understand, that is a good place to pick up containers for growbeds and the like.

oh yes, I have been browsing there three or four times already, just 10-15 minute drive from my house, they will definitely supply some components of my system. looking for some IBC's as well, people are getting wise to the value of a good clean ibc in CA, the going price seems to be $150-$175 for a quality refurbed one. My work takes me around farms a LOT so I anticipate finding a few in some farmer,s field or shop and making a nice deal, just have to be patient.

I have found that dairy farms use them up pretty often. The sanitizer they use to clean Stainless steel pluming IIRC.

I'm also in south CA, close to san diego, I've been looking around for a whole day yesterday (just online), and it seems like there's enough stuff around here to set up a good system. the problem is mainly the weather (yeah i can't believe it either).

san diego weather is good almost all year, but it rained like crazy this year, meaning AP system will not do well with the over flowing of water if it's not covered up... if it's covered up then you run into the heat problem in the summer because it gets kindda too hot if the system is under that sort of green house condition...

I was just planing on giving my sump an over flow drain out to the landscaping.

So I got over the stigma of going to the Salton sea for tilapia. In one scoop I got over 100 tilapia fry/fingerlings. So if anyone needs tilapia fingerlings, hit me up. If you have an established system, I would want to trade for some properly saved seeds from your system. If it is your first system, and just setting up, I will make a donation of them, to help out, with the expectation that you would do the same.

I am a newbie in central Orange County. I just finished my AP build and am waiting for the water to settle in. I plan on raising tilapia and veggies on top.
QUESTION... Heater. Does anyone around our area use a heater to raise their water temp?
