A place to discuss aquaponics

Anyone willing to be asked questions about their field(s) of expertise in order to help someone with their aquaponics systems, or new aquaponics ideas might like to mention the things they have some knowledge of, and are willing to answer questions about.

ie if you're an entomologist, a metallurgist, a chemist, a carpenter, or a cook, or anything else, and you're willing to answer people's questions on your skills, sing out.

We have such a huge member base, that there must be a lot of skills out there that other members need to solve some problem or another.

Sadly none of my fields of expertise really help in aquaponics.

(I study law, I know a few things about event management, I am an accomplished rugby player, know a bunch of nonsense about rock'n'roll, know a bunch of stuff about music, and records, and history of modern music, can play the piano and the guitar, have been sailing since I was born, have been skiing since I was born, have done a lot of dirt gardening, I know a whole lot about dogs and dog training... and umm maybe there's some other stuff... but these are the kind of things I feel comfortable giving other people insight about...)

But I will watch this thread closely, great idea Bullwinklell!

PS: about the "being a cook", I'm not one per se, but I can cook really well, so if anyone needs help with italian recipes I'm happy to help.

Edit to add: I can speak 4 languages fluently (French spanish english italian)... don't know if it qualifies

I am an environmental scientist, specialising in dry tropics weeds and reveg projects. I know a bit about aquatic macroinvertebrates. I bake bread, and drink cidre.

I would be a "visual communications specialist"

I'm a stay at home dad retired from being a mechanic. I also did some stints designing kitchens, installing ceramic tile, and the drilling end of geothermal heating and air(finally something that might be relevant). Yeah, I'd love to try using a ground loop to heat my FT in the cold and cool it in the heat. Of course, I don't have a giant water drill laying around....but I'm still in good with the former employer, so maybe someday.

Ex electronics technician and crane driver, now a lowly tax accountant....

I am a builder by trade for some 20 years, but currently a Real Estate agent managing a small local office for the past 12 or more years now.

I drink wine and cant help but notice the more I drink the more knowlegable I get...

Mechanical engineer, experienced in machining, welding, diesel engines, pnuematic and hydraulic equipment. Mainly mining and civil machinery. Currently working as a maintenance planner for australia's largest gold company - Barrick Asia Pacific.

Seasoned exposure and knowledge regarding yabbies/gilgies/koonacs.

Just finished a degree in Petroleum Engineering....looking for work. Aquaponics helps me keep my sanity right now..

Comptetent with CNC routing as well.

Lots of things as hobbies....personification of "Jack of all trades...master of none."

IT (Programming, databases, systems analysis, web design, support etc etc etc)
Degrees in Mathematics (Modelling), Computer Science (Cyber-forensics, information and security management).

I'm a potter of 25 odd years.

I have a pretty good head for problem solving, and might be useful to help out with a new invention or idea.

I have some skills at constructing 3D objects and devices in my head and being able to rotate them to look at the other side, or move parts or gears and see if they work. I'm not sure if that means anything to anyone else, but basically I do sketchup in my head quite well.

I'm a PhD in molecular microbiology. now most interested in antibiotic resistance determinants of important clinical bacteria, and collaborate closely with guys who design new drugs. Also know a bit of bioinformatics, perl, R, unix command line etc.

unfortunately none of that is particularly relevant to aquaponics, except for a fairly detailed knowledge of bacteria and how they grow.
