Are there any rules regarding kayaking at night on the Swan?
This is my first ever yak so I have no idea . Do I need lights, reflectors etc?

I would strap a blinking light on yourself to reduce the risk of a paddle steamer running over you!

Not sure about yaks... I think the flashing bike light is probably a good idea , and some reflective bits...

any time i take my outback out in low light i always have an anchor light on the back and a headlamp strapped on. If you are getting into kayak fishing more i highly recommend you find a decent kayak fishing forum to bounce ideas around. KFDU and AKFF are great forums that cover most of the country and have lots of great ideas. i'm fairly sure there are some WA based forums.

always wear a PFD!!!

Yakfishwest is the WA based forum, you will need an anchor light and all the other safety gear before you can go out, fisheries and marine safety check kayak fishers often.

in this video you can see my anchor light (with hi-vis orange flag attached) behind my head.

Anywhere i can encounter boats especially at a time of low light i have the light/flag installed

yeah thats it, yakfishwest... and yes check with your local authorities for relevant safety requirements... and remember you are only cheating yourself and your family when it comes to lack of safety

Great clip Iceman, nice size snapper bet that would of been very tasty. Good to see fish like that so close to suburbia means the waters are in a healthy shape.
