My tadpoles are as big as Troutmans and some maybe even bigger getting up to 5 inches and massive tails - but then they had a high protein SP diet

see my thread http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=10027&start=45

During the recent heat wave when we had a run of 40C+ days I found this little frog up near the house. It was very dehydrated in the heat. On closer examination the lower part of its right leg is missing. This could be the same animal that I took a picture of earlier (see above link) as a tadpole with a missing leg

This frog is slightly smaller than they are when they turn into frogs from tadpoles as he was dehydrated and his skin was very loose and wrinkly. But at least it gives an idea of how big they are when they change.

How big are they when fully grown?

The biggest I have sits in the palm of my hand from the base of my fingers to my wrist. He or more correctly she, lives in the small pond we have outside of our kitchen window. Its hard to get a photo as they tend not to sit still and wait for their photo to be taken :geek:

crikey Troutman, they are whoppers.
As for legal/illegal I really honestly couldn't give a toss. If the water wasn't there they wouldn't have laid the eggs there... I put the water there, so off they go. They are nothing but a pest to me

and i think that is the big difference. you cant take tadpoles n stuff from natural waterways, but if not natural waterways then its different

I think that the frogs/tadploes are leaving their natural homes and moving into the aquaculture ponds for an easier life. They recon there numbers are decreasing in the wild but every pond based aquaculture farm I have seen has thousands of them.

the reason they are declining in the wild is more caus of pollution and other human impacts. where as your ponds are well looked after and a perfect living conditions for them.

if you had a choice between high rise single roomed apartments that stunk and full of cockroaches..... or lovely large well looked after condos.... which would you choose to try and live in?

If you want your Silver Perch fingerlings to survive, don't let the tadpoles turn into frogs, as I lost half mine before I found a frog eating one, have now made my tank frog proof and as yet have not lost any more.
