Tilapia are in the hot water pond-age at the Latrobe valley power stations

I wonder what moron released them there...

Dont know but they are there as well as other banned fish i think cyclids and something else that grow to 3 or 4 kg

bet there's probably some of the dreaded carp in there as well....

time to dust off the fishing rods!

they've been there for years. mostly red devils and convict cichlids, and tilapia of course. Look up hazelwood pondage, and you get heaps of hits on fishing and fishkeeping forums. its not like they can survive anywhere else in vic, so Fisheries let it go and let some kids have some fun catching something a bit different.

There was even a push to stock it with barra.

I wish I lived closer

I was reading a document publish by the latrobe shire and they stated that they have previousally tried growing barra in hazelwood pondage and there is potential.

Barra have been trailed in Hazelwood pondage, along with a variety of other fish. The Latrobe shire has a information pack available online about aquaculture in the shire. Barra is being promoted as a suitable species in the area because growout ponds can be heated through geothermal heat exchange...

Hi guys just wondering if any one here has some information regarding water temperatures for tilapia and barra for that matter. As above mentioned above hazel wood poundage has tilapia and cichlids in their thousands. And now also barra. I am wondering about the minimum temperature these species can survive in?
