The kids updated their Facebook page with their information on raising shrimp, daphnia, blackworms and earthworms if anyone would like to see: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sonic-Bo ... 1970841545

If you look under the photos in "Our Project" there are some more pictures of the system. There are also some videos, you can see some of the programming in action for the robotics portion of the competition. The team took second overall at the last competition!

I realized belatedly that I'm not sure if we are allowed to link outside the forum. If that ^^ wasn't allowed, my apologies! If it needs to be deleted, I'll have the kids c&p the info here for those interested.

My opinion - I think they should post all those pics from the AP build on here. All that is on this forum so far is the finished product. People like to see a system being built. Especially by kids!

I'd love some robotics videos (but am not on Facebook) and more construction photos.

Pics of a robotic fish feeder would get EVERYBODY here excited.

Youtube videos of the robotics portion. They only loaded this one video because it takes forever - nothing worked right, which is normal for the first competition, but it gives you an idea of how much time they're giving all this, it's not just the aquaponics!

Really awesome! Of course, you say cherry shrimp and I think pets. :)
Tell the kids keep up the good work. Getting us adults thinking about live food a little more.

We haven't actually used the shrimp. We're still waiting for a colony to form and we aren't sure any of us will have the heart to use them. They are cute. The earthworms are still safe too since they are too big for our little fish and we are too squeamish to cut them up. We've supplemented with frozen food on occasion so they still don't get pellets.

Whenever the right time of year is(end of summer, maybe) keep an eye out for tadpoles in ditches and untended ponds. Free fish food! You of course take the chance of disease with any outside food source. Maybe you could quarantine if they don't all grow legs and jump out too fast. My aquarium fish love them.

The project will be done by then but we don't think we could do tadpoles anyway. We usually save them in buckets until they hop off!

Just an update - the kids did great at the regional qualifier today. Thanks in part to you all, getting to share their ideas with you, they did really well in the research portion as well as the robotics portion. They got call backs in all three portions (research, robotics and teamwork) and ended up winning the Champion's Award and received a bid to the state tournament. The judges really liked their project and we had a lot of interest at our table display, so hopefully we've won some new people over to aquaponics as well.

I'm not sure what the smallest AP project is, but this is their display tank since they can't take their full system with them (sorry I still can't get the photo uploader here to work):

Very good. Like to see this happening.

Couple of links that might help, one from BYAP, and one from Ian from the BYAP forum

When are the State Tournaments?
