When I feed my fish, Tilapia pellets, twice a day, I feed a very small amount of pellets. I know that they are suppose to eat all in five minutes, but, what do you do after five minutes if they are still eating? My fish clean up all of the pellets in 15 minutes, sometimes 10 minutes. Do you take out the extra food after five minutes even if they are still eating? Johnra

Are you human?: The top half is

Your main aim with the food is to make sure they eat it all before it bloats, becomes unappetizing and sinks.
Once it sinks they are very unlikely to eat it and it will start to rot giving off ammonia.
If they are eating it all after 10 minutes, that really isn't a problem.
You might give them slightly less, but feed them 3 times a day and keep within the guideline of 5 minutes.
That's what I do at the moment, actually as the weather warms and I have added some solar heating, the fish feed 4 times a day.

Duinui, I forgot something - the dust from a drying area for camotes (tap pi ok) sp is near my house. I notice that a lot of that dust settles on my pond. Do the fish eat that also? Sometimes the fish act as thought they are gasping for air on the top - but not so - their mouth is opening and closing like an old persons mouth sometimes does - they are also backing up as they go - they act like they are eating something off of the surface of the water. They do this even when the pellets are floating right next to them. Are the fish eating the camote dust from the surface of the water or something else? I also have IMO nice green water, clear for about 30 cm's.What are they eating?
