That would involve a trip down to my Aunty's place which is a 2.5hr drive. Gonna catch a bunch of yabbies this weekend from a pond I know of and chuck them in for quick consumption

Yeah thats what i think too roodog. Being a riverway though, I cant just keep throwing nets in and then wait for them to grow. Some other bugger will pinch them.

Aaah and that sorry is the truth of the land.
If there is a good spot out there, you can guarantee every other bugger knows about it. But there is always those secret spots that people know about but wont let you know where it is....in my years of searching dams in the goldfields I have come to the conclusion that there is no such place, lets face it - you can go to a prospecting/geographic/tourist shop and buy maps that will point out every dam/lake/river in a given area and they cost under $10 (trust me I have many), you can look at these on google earth to check out the condition and in my travels I havnt found one to brag about yet. When google earth was created - the secret dams became extinct.

One thing that is a small advantage here with the river is that there are a few spots that you have to walk too. So that rules out lazy people. Also the river runs through peoples property, so if you know someone that will let you fish there you can go alright too.
