Haha yeah. My little bloke just holds it with an iron fist then drops it in the lawn, I guess he figures the mower will pick it up :funny1:

SV how much overhang do you have with your growbed? I cut up my IBC yesterday and plan to use wood to support it and dont want to run into similar troubles.

Are you human?: Sadly... yes

There is a bit of water showing at the top of the growbed. Might want to lower the level a bit to keep algea from forming in the gravel.
Anywhere the sun can get to the water, algea forms.

I was waiting for someone to comment on that ;)

As of 30 minutes ago I just cut a 1/4 inch off my standpipe and also sprinkled some more gravel to all the low spots. The gravel has just started to show signs of algae. Cheers :thumbleft:

Just under 300mm from the outside of the FT IBC cage to the outside of the rim of the GB IBC cage.

Thanks mate. I am hoping that using hydroton will prevent any collapse. It is the way BYAP do it after all :)

cool, the clay is probably many times lighter than rocks. Rocks are REALLY REALLY heavy :)
But I'm too cheap for clay :laughing3:

:laughing3: The main reason for going clay for the whole lot is i am in a rental and will have to move it. I am hoping that once it is drained 3 or 4 guys will be able to move it without having to empty any. Otherwise i would use gravel and have the top 100mm or so in clay.

Hmm that sucks about the cost. Maybe you can find a few people and do a group buy? You wont have any problems with winter temps?

Thats one thing that im not certain about where i am at. Definately too cold for barra over winter, but im not sure if it will be cold long enough for trout to grow out. It isnt too much warmer than Perth so i think it should be ok.

Wouldn't count on that... see VB's thread... (Veggieboy).... he struggled with Barra through a Brisbane winter...

Rupe do you think perch would be the better choice ? Jade or Silver ?

Just been reading VBs thread for...crikey way too long and I'm a bit put off Barra now, especially as a starter fish.
