Aug 28 2010 I picked up my perch.
For scale the drain in the picture is 50mm.

They were feeding almost all this winter, if considerable smaller amounts.
I did not get a decent picture of any but there is some that would be lucky to be 100mm head to tail. At least two would be 50mm.
Its a bit sad seeing goldfish bigger than the perch!

Would I be better to separate the smaller ones? They have plenty of space most of the time they are gathered in the last 2m of the 7m long tank.
I've probably only got enough 2mm pellets for a month if I keep mixing them with the 4mm ones.

I think you may be overstocked. What size is the system and how many fish ?

Roughly 5000L in the tank the fish are in. About 75 perch, 5 Koi and 5 goldfish.
I know they look crowded in the photo but that's just cause they all hang out at that end for some reason and I was standing on the edgeto take the photo.

I can divide it into 3 with a bit of work.

How big were they when you got them...

Perch hardly grow during winter.... or until the water gets to > 24...

They also tend to stretch... then seem to do nothing, while in fact firming out... then they stretch... etc...

Once they get up around 200+gm... > 200mm... then they start to look like they're growing faster...

They were in the 50-75mm range from memory when I got them.

I'm not to concerned about the majority of them. Just wondering if separating out the "runts" would achieve anything.
