now i know that most people keep animals around their house or farm to eat, but I'm always interested into what kinds of animals people keep as pets. this means animals that you you keep around and love so much you just wouldn't eat them.

i've got a 2 year old shih-tzu that runs the house and occasionally beats up on my 4 month old staffordshire bulldog (pit bull).

it's a funny combination to walk down the sidewalk, but my girlfriend and I have a mine and her's mentality when it comes to the pets... lol. my big dog, and her little one... even though her little dog still runs the show.

I also have one 2 year old shitzu with a napoleon complex. She grabs onto my friends pitbull and can hold onto his face then he shakes her off and they both love it.Even saying his name gets her going crazy then we got to go set up a play date at the park. My mom got a shitzu maltese mix that I take care of three days a week and the two little crazy nutjobs play tug of war for hours.

I have had bunnies, tons of fish(of course) a praying mantis named rambo, sparki the rat, crabby the crayfish, and growing up had a bichon named garbage can. Her real name was pumpkin but between my brother and I her name ended up evolving into garbage.

my sister breeds staffordshire bull dogs, and well with all the publicity that pit bulls get with being violent, i was actually very surprised at how docile the well trained pit bulls are... my shih-tzu's name is star and my pit bulls name is mars.

i've had rabbits, jack and jill, a ferret name bella, a cat named george, and a lab named charlie in the past. but alas, animal life spans are short... the lab had hip-dysplasia, he ended up being over 120lbs because there towards the end he couldn't move around much...

now mar's parents were both over 100lbs, so im hoping for a giant mush ball. he's about 35 lbs right now at 4 months, and when i take him on walks people confuse him for a half grown brindle boxer because of his brindle patterns... random people per and love on him until i let them know he's a pit bull... then they get all weary... lol i watch as a fly buzzed around mar's head and when mars noticed what was going on he ran in fear... bringing some literalness to the term "wouldnt hurt a fly."

All my friends get pit bulls it seems but I am allergic to most breeds so shitzus, bichons, matese, and poodles are the only option. cats make me break out all over if I stay at a house with one for a week so no kitties. Out of the dogs I can handle around the little ones seem less "gay" (no offense gay people I am for gay rights)

Its funny that the bichon I had growing up was always around my friends pit named Mr capone and when he was a pup the bichon used to chase him so all his life he was weary of her 13 pounds of terror.

My neighbor just picked up a second hand ridgeback/pit mix who looks to be a big boy real soon. My shih-tzu is already harassing him but the maltishit is terrified. The new dogs name is Butkus after the legendary football player.

you should look into the hypo-allergenic dog breeds like puggles (pug and beagle) or labdoodles (lab a poodle) these guys are a bit more expensive than your average breed, but they're great for people wit pet allergies... i know a guy that owns a tattoo parlor and had it cleared by the state to allow his dog in his shop because it was a hypo-allergenic breed. no dander is the reasoning. it was strange at first to have a chocolate labdoodle sitting next to me while i was getting a tattoo, but then again, having something to concentrate on other than the machine's buzz was a good thing. lol.

If I could find one second or third hand me down maybe. Right now where I am at big dogs would be to much and now that I lost out the possible lease on a 2 acre place due to a false positive on a field test being reported in the newspaper finding a bigger place is looking grim until a civil suit is settled.

If I get a bigger place I might modify the garage to house bigger dogs and maybe take in some greybounds post race days or something. I am fine with bigger dogs as long as I just was my hands after petting them and don't touch my eyes but shedding dander types in he house would be a nono.

We have a Lab x who we rehomed at 8 mths. Bonnie is now nearly nine and a very loving and "helpful" addition to our home. Our cat , Cornie, is 14 now and still so lazy she can hardly jump onto the bin for her tea. I dont remember her ever having brought home a bird or lizzard. We have an ornamental pond with koi and carp plus of course our AP silvers. The rabbit gets first dibs on vegie scraps then what he doesnt eat, goes of to the worms! We have also tried crazy crabs but I find them a little boring as it gets a little chilly for them here in winter :D
