No,this was my first IBC system and a bigger pump seemed smarter at the time, i need to down grade, was waiting for the the system to age so i didnt upset the fish when i replace the pump. however i may use it for my next system where ill have a few more grow beds and will need the pump to feed the GB.

The only difference I can see is the first is 40w the 2nd is 35w and that the first one states manufactured in China. Only $10 difference in price.

Unless you need the extra head height of the aquarium shop pump, I would be getting the rockaroundtheblock pump. Better warranty, and cheaper shipping.

If I was going to buy a new pump, such as the rockaroundtheblock one just mentioned, which would be the best flow rate model for say a single IBC based system, expandable to 4 extra half blue barrel growbeds ?

The 4500 would give you enough for future expansion and a spray bar back into the fish tank.. Thats probably what I would go for, seeing they are such low wattage you can afford to go a little larger than you need.

Have you guys seen this site. ACO air pumps are at a pretty good price.

I don't like the "Hailea" electromagnetic pumps... they tend to run hot, and make a lot more noise than these similar ones...

I dislike all those style of pumps, they are too noisy and inefficient.

These ones are twice the price for the same airflow, but 1/2 the power consumption, and they are near to silent:

http://www.thereefshop.com.au/index.php ... ts_id=1002

Quality built, mine sits in a box that gets too hot to touch for most of the day in summer, still going. One of the Hailea style pumps failed very quickly, melting itself to death.
