You will definitely be having algae issues. You really should block as much light as you can with those clear containers. Also I don't know if they have it in Australia but I have found a cheap alternative tho weed mat is road fabric. Its used in road construction so maybe some local construction types could help with that.

Love your greenhouse. Is that double wall polycarbonate panels you got going there?

Yeah Look Eric, ever since Faye hinted at a possible algae problem i have been worried about it. I will have to look at that i think.

Regarding the GH, yea its the 4mm double wall polycarbonate UV proctected panels, we were very lucky to get them! The fact that they are UV is the onlt hope i have that i may get away with no algae, but will keep a good eye on it.

Thanks Mate.

ok, a question if i may,

How much is to much airation?
see my attached pic, this is the airating system that will handle all the top rail return water.
i have also built an airator for the return water coming from the sump that handles return water from the bottom rail.
its simply just a pvc 't' section 30mm straight pipe from either end peppered with holes and end caps on either end.

Does anyone see problems with this?

You can't have too much aeration... not by normal air input anyway...

Hi All,

Moving along nicely, 2 IBC's arrived on the weekend so gone is the wheeliebin.
A clean out is in order then some litter filters and plumping and we are good.

well, so who was nervous the first time they switched there new system on? :hello1:

We are still waiting for the pump to arrive so we did the first wet test with the hose attached.
Only the top 7 GB's were tested.
They all filled at different times and not even in a logical sequence which i was suprised about.
My only propblem during filling was that the end two gb's got no water, even with the hose on flat out, so i am open to ideas there.
I pulled out the level and found there was a slight incline but i would not have thought it big enough to warrant no water at all.

The Stageing kit held up well with only slight bowing over the FT only.
But i am looking at maybe a center pine post and t-section to assist.

Now, the siphons, all functioned beautifully for 3 complete cycles thru so they are breaking the seal at the bottom and restarting unassisted.
Really very happy. but, its early days and only a first wet test but i am grinning.

NOW, i know, that i havent taken some advice from some, or others, even after asking but like alot of us here, we use what we have and dare not ask for more.

The fish are on site so as soon as the pump arrives, its game on.

Now, THE most important question! HOW TO KEEP THE KIDS OUT!! :D

well, getting there, we are on the way.
water is still murky but clearing nicely,
all plants and herbs are going very well,
we planted to what we use the most,
tomatos (i cook with around 4 kg a week) red capsicums, strawberries, basil, rocket, pak choi, onions and a pineapple.
beetroots, cucumbers and radish seeda are all sprouting and will be ready to plant in probably next weekend.
i planted quite a few of each, and will just weed out the weaker plants as time goes on.

all the ball valves and new pump are fitted.
it rained and rained here the other day. gutters are working great, the disadvantage is, that they only have a 10mm hole for the water to exit from into the 20mm polypipe, so i am going to fit a standard gutter underneath the GH original, pepper the original with holes, so it acts as a leaf and deris catcher and run a house hold gutter into the IBC, THAT should catch me some water then!

but so far, i am happy.

Thanks Charlie! Thanks Faye!

ok, if you squint and tilt your head back and to the left, its much clearer but this is the projected future of the Heretical Glasshouse.

not so many cords and a touch less grass, but hey!

I think it looks promising!!

G'Day All,

well i tried the eco-rose, i now have deep green to black water, plants are all fine and the fish are still coming up to feed so no lose thus far.
But god dam does the GH stink! :fart:

Fair but of work done the past couple of weeks, upgraded the return water manifold to 100mm, no more flooding or over flows, and no leaks and is starting to look nice and neat and tidy so very happy.

Now, i have to say that i had the opportunity to view a member of the forums established system a week ago, and they say that a picture is a thousand words, well seeing Milnes system was a picture.
How things become clear when you actually lay eyes on a system, see it, follow the pipes and listen to the sounds, poke around in the media and seeing the things he is growing.
I feel like i have been let into a secret.
What an eye opener! And the fish! Amazing!
Thanks very much my friend, it was an honour to learn from you.

Now, seeing Milne's CHOP system, got me thinking of my own and exactly how i am going to plumb the lower half of my GH, and i think, in fact i am confident, thats how i will do it.
I love planning the next extension, and i am looking forward to it.
It will work beautifully i think.
