BF3 is the first of the BF games i have played and it is freaking sweet. It is a shame they dont make linux versions of games and i have to play it on PS3 :(

Back on topic. Wouldnt the internal impedance of the battery be the current limit. Most of the time, electronic battery chargers will not charge a battery under a certain voltage to protect from risk of explosion etc. Well, any charger that i have used and seen. The only charger I have seen that didnt do that was a ~25 year old charger that was more a 13.8V power supply than a charger :P

I got fetchtv put on recently and now I have an extra 45ms ping on every server; really didn't need that considering I'm pushing 40. Bf3 is good but I think bfbc2 was better maybe because I was spending less time force feeding fish then.

I also find RL more distracting and generally enjoying, but sometimes nothing beats releasing some frustration with a beer and a grenade :)

Thats enough OT from me :)

Only when nearly charged, the internal resistance drops the more charged it is.
When they are discharged they will suck as much power as they can, to a point that they can be damaged or blow themselves up.
Thats why electronic battery charges limit input current when the batteries are severely discharged.
Same as when you use your battery drill, flatten the battery and the charger warns that the battery is too hot, the internal resistance reduces as temp increases.

With steam games now being available on osx I think it won't be long before Linux gets a show, hopefully reducing M$ death grip on pc gaming, I only use windaz because of directx. Sorry way off topic....

If your battery is in good health, then i dont think you would have a problem. The UPS will have a low voltage cut-out to prevent dischargeing too far. Not saying you shouldnt have one, you most definately should! But it isnt a show stopper by any rate. If they sell the UPS without it they must have some other form of protection. Can always chuck in a 15w 1 ohm resistor to do the job :D

Low voltage cut out also affect the life of the battery, if you keep discharging a standard (non deep cycle) battery below about 80% then you are severely reducing its effective life.
ALL batteries prefer to be operated in the top end of their charge capacity.
A battery that is used between 50-60% will die much faster than a battery used between 90-100%. Same applies to deep cycle batteries, they just have much thicker lead plates that gives them longer life and the ability to be discharged down to 20% of capacity without damage.

Dont forget the option of just creating your own.

UPS seem expensive for what they are. A deep cycle battery a smart charger, and a small inverter cost about the same, but get you a lot of backup.

How much do these things cost second hand? The new ones I've seen cost $500 or so. Mine cost 300$ for 200 amp hours (so I guess 100 amphours at 50% discharge) all brand new, with a 7 stage 8 amp smart charger. And all bought retail rather than on ebay.

What do those numbers mean?

I take it they tell how long the thing will run with a given load.
