Hi All

We have just been seriously biten by the AP Bug. 7 Weeks ago we attended a BYAP workshop and from there on in we have become avid aquaponicists. Our IBCs were quickly located and our plan to cut out the large area of concrete to the side of our patio was canned. What better base for our system. Since then we have cycled the system :D
As we already have a gold fish pond out the front we used some fish from there to get started. We then sourced some Silver Perch. We have delt (successfully we think) with a case of ick. Lost some GF but all the SP made it through and are feeding well. We can see them growing bigger each day :laughing3:
We have been experimenting with different plants in the 3 GB one of which is aptly named the "swamp" as it is shallow and has a high water level in comparison to the other 2 and also is under more shade. We have plans to erect a trellis over the whole area with roll up shadecloth so it can be removed through the cooler months. Have harvested a fair crop of lettuce and tatsoi, a couple of peas, the tomatoes are carrying fruit as well as the capsicum and strawbs.
We are now working on an indoor AP system complete with heater to try our hand at growing Barra fingerlings for our next system (sometime before next spring please Ron) :love3:
Will post more pics when we can drag ourselves away from setup 1! and those hypnotic SP's!

Thank you for your kind comment.,
Have trouble with white fly, sprayed with natra soap and put in 4000 encasia wasps, still morewhite fly hatching, frightened to spray in case it kills all the wasps.
regards, Don Moyes

Sticky traps can be used to trap whitefly. Warning on using soap products near fish in case it washes in to the fish tank.

Go easy with soap products around your system, fish don't like soap...

Hi.from Don Moyes,
Natrasoap was recommended by biological services as being OK for whitefly and fish, maybe it isn't.
Fly traps are a big joke, have tried them even had 2 feet by 2 feet ones made, when I say white fly is a problem, believe me there are thousands of the little beggers. Has anyone something else to recommend, please?
