I'm from a small town in NY state currently. I am planing to make a small aquaponics system and worm bed in a few months once I move. I have read a lot about it here and in other places but there seems little advice about how deep to put seeds in a system. (on the other hand I have only been at this a few days)
Also any advice whatsoever is always appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome Charles!

I try to get seeds probably an inch deep or so, they might fall in a bit more FWIW. I water them with a cup at feeding times if they aren't moist, until they sprout and get their bearings.

BTW don't wait, throw something together with some goldfish and storage tubs and gravel right now!

I would but I am in the middle of moving. I'd just have to tear it down and build it up again...bad for the fish, and we are pretty busy packing and trying to get all the paper work done for buying the house. But right now I can read up on what I need to do during my work breaks and hopefully not make too many mistakes.

I grow my seeds in a little seed raising grow house by just dropping them on top of some scoria. The "rain" from the condensation on the roof waters them. (but this doesn't work so well now that its hot and there is less condensation)

If you sow directly in the grow bed, quite often you'll find that when you pull up a lettuce or something, a seed that didn't land in quite the right spot will get moved by your harvest and spring to life.

I find that if I just scatter seeds and move some media around, generally speaking with smaller seeds I get around half the germination rate I'd get in potting mix. With larger seeds it's about the same as if I raised them in potting mix. (I only mention potting mix because you might be more familiar with it)

Well I have moved and set up a primative system. Basically a gold fish a pump with a timer and some of that round clay stuff that seems so popular with seeds in it.
Right now the pump brings the water up and it drips right back down through a hole I drilled in the bottom of the gravel bin. Should I put in a pipe so that all the water doesn't pour back into the fish bin or should I just let it completely drain out? IE: should I leave an inch of water in the gravel bin?
O and is there where I should post questions or in another forum area?

You could start a Member Systems thread and post pictures of your setup, and post questions and people will post answers there. Otherwise there are few questions that haven't already been asked and answered on here. A member thread is more social than the Search function though!
