You have my personal apology if I've offended DB...

I'm a Kiwi by birth, so I'm probably quick to jump on the flight thing...

no offence intended honestly

Besides, how can i not like someone who has a "back room" set up like that!

Everybody should remember, whether seeking to bag Australian, New Zealander, American or other (which is not nice anyway), that to generalise or stereotype the perceived nature of the people of a nation (particularly by interpreting the views of the nation's leaders and their blind followers) is not a valid way to assess the population of the nation in general, let alone individuals.

Particularly when visiting forums like this and those dealing with such things as permaculture, environmental issues etc, the people who are enterring into the conversations are often very different (and more progressive) in their thoughts than the people who represent their nation as its leaders (and blind followers). They are the people who question the norm. For fugs sake, I'm certain that embracing the concepts of aquaponics demonstrates progressive thinking of all those that visit here regularly.

Regardless of origin, we all share similar passions and there should be no need to get into this sort of crap.

DB - take it with a grain mate - some people have a habit of taking things that one step too far. I know I have been guilty in the past in social situations (particularly when under the influence of alcohol .

Very true.

Bythe same token, Laughing at oneself and recognising that some idiosyncrasys are indeed funny is healthy. Being born of italian parents means that the only real reason i want a water tank is so i can water the driveway again, it's looking rather dry and lifeless

I keep wondering why you ever needed a lawn mower Steve. Shouldn't your yard be sprayed with concrete by now?

The comments after that got mean spirited and even America bashing. I am offended.

I think calling it America bashing is being disingenuous (and perhaps indicates a more significant underlying insecurity). It certainly didn't seem mean spirited to me, merely correcting some incorrect beliefs (none of which have been shown to be wrong since).

A good friend of ours... not an italian person but a melbornian (nuf said), has a beautiful green PLASTIC lawn out the front. We would always go over there with dead lawn beetles and strategically place them around the 'lawn' near his letter box... He could never understand why the beetles were attracted to it, "Must be the colour" he said...
