I'd be real keen to hear your version of the meaning of 'feed the chooks' VB - is it anything like mine, or is it closer to the one Janet found in urbandictionary ??

I'll bet a few others have checked urbandictionary by now, and I think I might have to do so everytime I use a uniquely Australian expression from now on, just to make sure I don't cause a diplomatic issue !

---and how come everyone's pickin' on my buddy Stu ? Huh ? Huh ?

 - maybe I am. I gotta admit I meant the meaning shown in the urban dictionary. As a Queenslander I am well aware of the Joh meaning also. Peter Beattie does exactly the same thing.

Stu - just cause you had a kid lately ;-). New years resolution 'stop being so crass' :D

Aah, Teflon Pete - at least they could rattle Joh's cage and get an entertaining response.

Sorry for the hijack Julien, maybe I'll get back to raising fish now.

I am back from my business trip.

Today I got 12 tiny goldfish. Compared to their previous home, they have so much room in that barrel that they must feel like they have reached the ocean.

I have managed their transition from 22C to 10C without killing any of them :).

They are swimming at multiple levels in the barrel, some at the bottom and some in the middle. I do not know if there is such a thing as a happy fish; but they do not look in distress at all.

Clarens, my four year old son, loved helping me put them in the water. I tried to explain to him that we eat fish but he did not like the idea at all!!!

Fortunately, I am more after vegetables than fish.

Good one Julien, please don't eat the goldies LOL Poor old Clarens may never forgive you. Good to get the young uns involved, a whole new generation of kids who think growing food in your backyard is normal.

Drama already!

I have found one floater and one was caught in the pump.

I can only see one swimming around in the barrel.

I have added a filter to the pump and I'll keep watching for the other fish.

To my great relief Clarens took it well.

In addition to doing AP, I am now teaching the lessons of life to a 4 year old ...

My five year old keeps asking when we can eat our fish (still don't have the proper ones yet, so eating 6cm ornamentals doesn't really cut it :) )
