I put my sick fella in 5 parts for a few days, no improvement 28 degs c, upped it to 10 parts, fixed him in 4 days. He is now fully healthy and feeding and will be my inside aquarium friend. We are too close now for me to eat him LOL. p.s all salt was added in minimal water (disolved,) not gradually.

If you had silvers instead of barra - it would certainly have fixed him (dead). Though seriously Stu - I wouldn't be suprised of another week in the 5ppt might not have done the trick, but what the hell if your fish can handle 10 (which yours can) salt is cheap and it sure did the trick.

And he must be a tough fish. I tested nitrites yesterday in his tank -- off the scale. HSM quick water change all is sweeet (I hope LOL)

Are you going to turn that tank into an AP system Stu. Maybe a little grow light with some herbs growing under it. Real handy to the kitchen I expect.

Nah, He is going in a 300 litre aquaium I will score in coming weeks (cabinet, undergravel filter, light in the lid....nice) and the little tank will be used to breed guppies to feed to him for entertainment LOL (sorry for hijack Jamie)

i'm not fond of UGF's. Its not that they don't work well, they work VERY well, but clean it once and tell me if you still enjoy it.

PS, just used the salinity calc i put in the useful info section silver perch good to 4PPT.

If anyone hasn't browsed the wealth of info in that section, please do! :)

I've pushed that a bit higher Steve - but wouldn't necessarily recommend to others.

i think is a long term viability thing. Baths of 10ppt can be used for 30 mins etc.

P:)

4 years no cleaning of UGF. Just AP it, the bottom is clean clean clean - that's 3 cleans, and I didn't need to do one of them. I'm a definate advocate of UGF's in DWC design.

I think if I got the hole saw out to the lid, my old man would have my balls. This will be my one and only ornamental, sorry guys. (LOL give it a week or so and I'll be taking the lid right off)

Jaymie, this is not supposed to be a rev up in any way, but I take it that you haven't got your fish yet. Do you have an eta??

Who'd you get them off and what's the explanation for the saga??

I spoke to the hatchery last week. I think the Silvers spawning was late this season.
Any way they SHOULD be here this week.

Couldn't find where anyone had answered your question in full Jaymie:

reference times:
If the water temp is above 25c (and remains there) the ICH cycle takes ~ 4 days - so 4ppt @ 28c gets rid of ICH quickly.

Under 25c work on 2 weeks and as has been suggested, there is no need to do water changes at the end to dilute the salt content.

Other advice (T'man) is to give a salty (15ppm?) bath to the individual fish for 30-60 minute periods - can't find the link to that atm (yes I can) *ICH treatment*

thanks Les,
this is for justin/quarantine purposes for when the fish FINALLY arrive.
I can't see any problem keeping the water temp above 25oC (getting it below 25o would take some doing)
The ibc is full of water, buying salt today... waiting now....

AA, not doubting your UGF, but where the hell did all the shite go if not in the UGF?

or maybe it was not as heavily stocked as mine with the cannister filter. The cannister is due for another empty (over due)
