Hi LKB,

Quote:
Question - what is it:
Gary (as in Gary Donaldson) or
Garry (as in Garry's system )

It's Gary........but, given that it could be much worse, I answer to either.

Regards.....Gary

Gary, you can fix the speelink on your thread name if you want to... Go back to the very first post in the thread, and edit it there.

Edit: actually you don't have to go back to the first post, just to one of yours in the thread and change the name as appropriate

Jaymie,

I tried that and, as you can see, it worked.

Thank you!

Hi,

Here's some photos of my system......taken today.

Attachments:
File comment: This is our small (one square metre) gravel/expanded clay flood and drain grow bed. It's watered by a small aquarium pump on a cheap Arlec timer. The plants are silver beet.

File comment: These are satellite pots. There are two sizes.....and they're useful for larger plants. These are half-filled with perlite and half with coco peat.
They are watered with fish tank water (by hand) with a short hose.

File comment: Here's a close up of my growing trays.......they're 660mm long x 330mm wide and 120mm deep. They're watered the same way as the satellite pots......and they are filled with coco peat.

Your bench isn't square: 4^2 + 8^2 = 80 != 9^2
I suggest either 6, 8, 10 or 5, 12, 13

Looks good otherwise. Gravity return to the tank?

The little flood and drain bed gravity feeds back into the tank.

The trays and satellite pots run-to-waste........I water the trays till the water begins to drip from a 12mm hole about 12mm from the bottom of the tray. The last few days have been very hot so we water the plants daily but in cool weather we might only water every two or three days.

This run-to-waste system can be fed with alternative nutrients (like worm tea or even hydroponic preparations) should my 700 litre fish tank fail to deliver sufficient nitrates. I can also use organic pesticides should insects prove to be too much of a nuisance......without killing my fish.

From a handling point of view, these systems are good, too. I can pick up a tray and carry it into the shed for harvesting or replanting.

Bracing the frame is designed to work on the 3-4-5 Pythagoras principle but, as you've observed, I have my own peculiar slant (excuse me) on it.

Gary

Janet, any engineer worth his salt would know PI further than just 6 significant figures, 3.14159265358979323 is more like it.
