I bought a 10 gallon used aquarium today, it came with a oscar fish, i added 3 black moors and a whole bunch of colorful guppies out of my aquaponic pond.

Will the oscar eat my guppies? My aquarium did come with a breeder basket net thing. which i took out.. Im very new to aquaponics and fishes etc....

If so, I could put the oscar in my pond with the other 9 tilapia, the tilapia already ate 2 out of 3 black moors i put in the pond yesterday i took the surviving black moor and putem in my new aquarium...

Oscars eat everything!
The guppies wont last long.
They also grow to 30cm and are very aggressive

Put the Oscar in the pond.
The tank is WAY too small for it.

Well that big ogre tilapia was dead this morning, I wonder what happen? No amonia, clear water, plenty plants, plenty oxygen. I do have a unlimited supply of tilapia but im curious why he died. Im thinking he ate my $10.00 worth of black moor I lost the other day...

Well hes in my compost pile now, fish ferilizer :)

Hey Burt..
Did you do a Quarantine transfer when you dropped the Oscar in the pond..?

When introducing new fish into a new body of water with other fish it is better to put them thru a period of isolation..
- Reason for doing so is you don't know what bacteria/etc they have or what bacteria you have in their new home..

If the fish was going into the environment with out other fish/animals at all you could just try him by himself.. But due to other fish you don't know what you are going to introduce into the water..

You could.can introduce some bug of some kind that your pond fish don't have any natural immunity to..

Omg

My oscar was lying on his side in the pond, white patch on either side of him like hes shedding skin. I took him out and put him in my 16 gallon duckweed container, I think hes DYING :dontknow:

I put some epsom salt in my pond now, the remaining tilapia seem to be fine.

I dont want my new oscar to DIE help me

Water conditions seem fine whats going on?

Sorry to hear about the Oscar..

With new Fish to go into a new situation you need to have a good Quarantine action plan..

You should never place new fish into a new Body of Water with out going thru a QT system..

- First thing you need to do is -- make sure the container they are in sterile.. or better of like in your case you should of left him/her in the tank..
- Get a small amount of pond water and pour it into the QT.. At the same time take a small amount of QT water and pour that in the pond..
-- Also Salt both bodies of Water to 3%.. This will help..
Do this every 3-4days and make sure that you Watch the fish in Both systems to watch for any signs of stress..

You need to Keep the new fish in the QT for at least a minimum time frame of 6 weeks..

Hope this helps for future fish....
