Hello,
I been using the site for about 6 months to gather information on making a CHIFT PIST system. Currently working on a "learning" system being made from 2, 55 gallon barrels. With the hopes that I will expand into IBCs, after I have killed my fair share of fish.

My current goal is just to get a system running with guppies and a grow bed made from 1 of the 55 Gallon barrels. Currently waiting for some uniseals to show up, to replace my bulk head fittings.

Later on I want to have a small green house with year round food for my family, along with some dwarf fruit trees, Redclaws along with the fish tank (unsure of best fish for my area).

Any ways, look forward to reading more about everyone's systems.

Hey Sterfire

If you take your time and stock accordingly then you shouldn't kill any fish at all...

It's a good idea to cycle up fishless using ammonia or peeponics....

A lot of problems arise when the time isn't taken to read through the basic sections
here.

start by reading the following threads (if you havent already)

basic information
aquaponics F.A.Q.
useful information

these will answer lots of questions and get you on your way to a great system

There are some indigenous cray to California, but they are not nearly as big as the redclaw...and the wife will eat it if she thinks its more like lobster instead of cray. I am under the impression i can get redclaw in CA, with out jumping thru any hoops, but i could totally be wrong.

I probably have read those, or at least glanced at them, will reread them today. Thanks.

Welcome, fellow Californian!

There's a guy in Santa Cruz that has redclaw he got from Florida. Evidently shipping is killer, costing 4 times as much for shipping as the actual crawfish. Good luck with your trial system. I kinda jumped into my first w/ 360 gal of fish tank and 500 gal of grow bed. I did kill 10 goldfish, but it was only because they got pulled into my grow beds (screen - lesson learned). Water quality was neven an issue.

Good luck!

I've seen some live crawfish for sale during certain seaons at asian supermarkets in sourther CA. I'm probably going to try a few the next time they come around.
