I have 2 big (for the tank size) air pumps running 24/7.
Can one tell by looking at a dead fish if it was DO related?
All the fish looked perfect, no gill problems (as much as I know what to look for)
Not gasping for air.
I fed them a little at midday (really a little) just to see how they reacted and the ones that were still alive smashed the food.

The river was dredged recently and therefore fairly silty, but like I said, by this morning, the water in the system was pretty clear.

Bill,

I have a well already, but thought river water would be safer/better/cleaner.
Seems that assumption may have cost me half my stock.
Think the well might be safer in the future.

When things go wrong, I like to at least have an understanding why.
We learn by our and one anothers' mistakes.

You'd think that by using river water that already supports teaming wildlife that it would be safe, but apparently not...

Lot's more dead over night.
Only the Tilapia though, carp and goldies all fine.
I have to go away for 2 days now, shudder to think what I'll find when I get back :(

All Tilapia dead on my return.
Both goldies too.
Just the baby Carp remaining.

Guess I should do a 100% water change tomorrow with well water.
Still can't believe it :(

Thanks Charlie.

The worst thing about it, is not knowing why.
But yes, move forward, try again and never go swimming in my river, lol.

Yes talking fish, however we'd all be in the entertainment business if these lil fishies could talk.

I hate finding floaters, keeps me up at night.

Made some progress today.
Got the sump out and cleaned it, probably pointless, but something in that water killed those Tilapia.
The Koi are all still fine, but definitely not eating like they were.
Plumbed the first trial Bamboo NFT and Sand Filter.
Stole some of the GF's dirt Pak Boong and Pak Chi and put in the DWC.

Some pics:

All the Tilapia died and the Koi don't seem that interested in it, so I am harvesting it and drying it at the moment.
Might get some ducks next week, haven't decided yet ;)

Every cloud (possibly) has a silver lining.
I have been trying to get BSF's started for a long time now, but with no success.
Just housefly maggots.

When all my Tilapia died I put them in the DIY BioPod, expecting more maggots, but I have got something different.
They are much darker than normal maggots, longer for their girth and have a black line running the length of the body.
Hopefully I'll finally get some BSF's growing!
