Hi there, need some advice. I bought a roma tomato seedling a few months back. Now it has grown into a bush. It does not seem to grow upwards much, more sideways.

Anyway the question I have is do I need to trim the bush down. If so, why do I start?

Take all the stems and leaves off from the base of the plant up to the first fruit bearing stem you want to keep.

I wouldnt prune a roma tomato at all as it is a bush type not indeterminate like most.

Romas are determimate but will go wild without pruning. Just know that they wont grow forever when pruning so dont prune too heavy. But, they yield so much you can get away with a lot more pruning than other bush type tomatos IMHO. I wouldnt ever grow one without pruning, but I have limited space.

Interesting guide.. just butchered a small black cherry tomato vine that's one one of them upside down hanger things by the back door as it directs, and have placed the wheelbarrow nearby awaiting the results.. :)

As others have said, I don't prune my determinate tomatoes except to get rid of foliage hanging down in the soil as a form of disease prevention. The more you cut off a determinate plant, the more you reduce your potential harvest.
