That onion looks beautiful... Is it still half in the gravel or has it pushed up out?

Airlift filter that has been running for a few weeks. It is now rolling over really well with the K1 media maturing

Had ants going nuts for the skrettings food in the auto feeder in the greenhouse. The little buggers finally clagged up the mechanism so I cleaned it out, and set this up. Just have to keep the water up to the moat :)

How do you find the K1? Have you used it before?

I've been looking into putting additional filtration into my sump when it goes in. I was put off the K1 because the site I read said you have to wash them regularly for them to work properly, otherwise they get clogged up and weighed down by the gunk.

The sump consist of three interconnected barrels. The total will be greater volume than the GBs will require, and will only empty around 1/2 way. So I thought I might make some under gravel filtlers by extending the interconnecting pipes into the bottom of the barrels then drilling holes in the pipes before covering them with media. Alternatively I could make some tickle or circulating bed filter using bio balls or K1 and add heaps of air stones to the barrels to turns things over in there.

As you can see the K1 is rolling over so there is no chance of it getting clogged. Air lift filters are meant to be self cleaning
Have a small one in the aquarium in the shed that has been running constantly for many months and the k1 has gone a brown colour but there is no clogging

Update on the greenhouse system, which has just 16 small jades in the tank, and the growth on the growbeds is amazing. Capsicums, tomatoes, spring onions and rockmelon vines all going nuts.

Amazing the growth of the plants from 16 jade perch. Rockmelons, tomatoes and peppers going nuts. The bigger rockmelon is growing from a vine that has exited the greenhouse through the louvre windows :D
