Is good price if shipping is something you need. Here in SEQ we are fortunate to have some places we can pick up our fingerlings in small quantities for $1 each.

Definitely... Will you have that offer for a while? My big system is about a month or two a way... I'll see how I go. I am getting impatient now.

Yeah, I'm about the same time frame as TimC..... 3-4 weeks, but count me in for an order of Silver Perch at that price, maybe same catfish as well.

We do!

Simply search for axolotl in the search bar on the website - or look in this category:

Can I get peoples opinion on shipping live fish across the country? I don't doubt the practices of these online companies, I am just a little wary about buy fish from over east and the expense of it.

1) WA Guys any first hand experience with getting fish shipped over from the eastern states? What was the survival rate?
2) Everyone any tips for improving survival rate once I have them, obviously very clean water and plenty of aeration
3)Disease, is it general consensus to get them into a moderate salt bath for the first two week to combat ICH?

Tim-
My brother-in-law used to ship tropical fish in from Singapore. He would lose some due to ammonia and shock, but most of them would make it. He would drive up to the airport (45-min drive) to pick them up when they came in off the plane, and as soon as he got them back to his apartment, he would start floating the bags. He had about 300-gal of aquariums, and would be ordering a couple hundred dollars worth whenever he did (usually once or twice a year).
Usually, he would treat them for ich as soon as he got them stabilized. He used Malachite green for the ich, but he was interested in the fish for their looks, not for eating them. From the information I have gleaned here, I don't think I'll ever use the poisons for treating fish again. I do think that a salt bath will be one of the first things I do, followed by dipping them out, and not cross-contaminating the water.

Prevention is better than cure

Since getting my 1st load of SP (then ICH), I believe it is best to isolate and treat in a salt bath for 2 weeks on receiving new fish.

When moving the SP into the new system (after ridding them of ICH), they got pretty stressed out and went right off their feed, skittish as hell and I have been watching intently for ICH syptoms but all is clear (go the salt treatment  )

every time I interupt the cycles to do something to the system, the fish go skittish for a day or so.

Thanks for the support people... I feel a bit more confident. I will definately treat for ICH. My bother wants a few angel fish, and I am seriously considering the 25 Silver Perch package at livefish.com.au.

A friend of mine will take 5 off me for his aquarium (he wants my bream, he can't have em!). That leaves 20 left to split amongst my mini system. They are only 4-5 cm long so they have a fair bit to grow while I get my big system in place. Once they get to 10 cm or so 5 can go in with my Bream to keep them company. My mini system is setup in such away so I can keep adding to it as I need more space. I have one more grow bed to go in so that will give me 165L of growing medium for an eventual of 1 KG of fish (estimated 20 x 15 cm fish) before the big system is ready.

Has anyone started with fingerling this small? How fast do they grow?
