LOL .. no .. I agree .. if your eating them you don't care ... BUT .. I have to look at the buggers when I am rasing them .... and I might not sleep for a few days after looking in the pond . :-)

So .. back to square one .. perch ... or trout ???????????

The main problem with trout in your dam will come from water temps during summer. If you can maintain the dam at 3 - 4m deep throughout summer the water should be cool enough down there for them to survive.
I recon your best bet would be to stock the dam with 9 month old trout in April (usually cost $1.10 each at that time of yr) when the temp has cooled down a bit. You could then start harvesting them in the spring when they would be a pan sized fish. The other thing to watch for trout is that they love flowing water so if you have an overflow or creek flowing in they may disappear into the creek at times of strong flow.

From my experience trout dont do that well in muddy dams as they largely rely on sight for feeding so if your dam muddies up the Silver Perch would be the better option. They also can handle water temps up to 28 -29c so will survive the summer months ok.
