Hi,
I had some small fish come to me that had, had a run in with a sum pump and some of the had a white fungus on them. I thought it had been from damage from the sump pump.

The one's that came with the damage didn’t survive but after a week in the nursery system with some salt they look OK. So I added them to main tank and slowly one by one they have dropped off but the bigger fish have been unaffected till this weekend.

As you can see from the photos it covers the body and that's the end of them I'm loosing 3 a day at the moment. I have salted to 3ppt (3Kg of salt in my 1000lt tank) They were looking ok till I tried to get the small ones out one night and I did chase them around a bit. This I'm thinking may have stressed them causing the fungus/bug to get a hold?

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

I would add another 3kg of salt and stop feeding them for a week.
Covering the tank can help sometimes too, they relax more when it is dark

i would do this

add another 7kg salt, aerate the cr*p out of the water, and leave for about a hour. them dump 50% of the water, and re fill, so your salt is @ 5ppt, and leave for 2 weeks. then dump half again and continue as normal.

also stop feeding for a few days, and prepare to lose some plants from the higher salt content,
coviering the tank cant hurt, destressing the fish is important

adding the salt - i would mix it in a bucket and poor it straight in, adding the salt quick sometimes helps kill the fungus better

good luck! - see here for salt levels from ROZ viewtopic.php?f=18&t=8016&p=298573&hilit=sister#p298573

The tank is already covered, when I took the other small ones out and put them in the nursery system last last week I salted to 6ppt and have non of them left.

I'm thinking what ever it is salt isn't going to help? When they 1st arrived the ones showing the signs of the white goop I bathed in 12ppt for 20 min but it didn't seem to effect it one little bit?

Don't really want to add any more salt, as it's going to take for every to get out.

So if I got it correct you got fish from another source that were not the best and you added them to your System..

How long where they in quarantine..
Sounds Like you have introduced something that your fish don't have a natural immunity to..

when I was told about adding fish to a system.. Place them in a separate tank..QT tank with a sacrificial fish in it.. leave them going for about 6 weeks..
- While doing this add a small amount of water from each tank to the other..
This will add a few of the bugs from each tank to the other but with out a huge shock to the system..

for your situation Salt All the Fish Heavy..
then place them back into the tank.. but I'm not to sure about the situation..

Hope the problem fixes it self up..

If a salt bath... and 6ppt in your tank isn't fixing the problem... then I don't hold much hope for the rest....

Treating with formalin might save them... but it's drastic, and not for the average AP'er....

Personally... I'd dump both the fish... and the water...

Thanks Guy's.

I think you may be right Rupert, will give them a chance to see if the salt can halt the spread.
If I end up with no fish I might just do PeePonics for the summer so I can put trout in next winter?

Time will tell.

Here's a short video I made this afternoon.

I have had this a few times on my SP's. I have found salt stops the spread to other fish but I have always lost the ones who had it.
I have never salted above 3-4ppt and it has stopped the onset.... Still havent been able to bump them off as I find them and thry to put them in hospital but they all go....good luck

Decal from memory your in Victoria? Sorry I'm on my phone. Truth is you won't fix the ones that have it and will have a few more that will get it even after salting. If you get some to survive it will pop up again and take out more. It's the reason I am reluctant to run silver's again. I say good luck to those that run them without problem but if you get problems just give up and find another option.

It shouldn't if dealt with immediately... and if you maintain your water quality, and are within stocking parameters...

Sudden water temp changes can bring it on... especially if your stocking is high, oxygen low, water quality boderline... (which is often the case if you're over-stocked)

have always had additional air in my system and lost sp in a 2000l system when only stocked with under 40 x 50-60mm sp. May have been bad stock may have been infected by goldfish but it will always pop up and rob you of stock. For a fish that is a 3 year grow out in vic min. You'll be forever restocking to keep up with them.
