There is a movement here in the states that fresh squezzed wheat grass is healthy for you. Too me it tastes just like liquid grass but hey whom am i to critisize when people are paying $10 for a tiny bag of it at a organic store.
So my question is if i had a bag of seed would i have to take each and everyone to germinate in a tin or wet paper towels, then stick each blade in the grow bed? Or can i go about it by just dropping them in the GB's on top like u do in dirt? My fear is that they will not germinate do to the level of fluid does not rise high enough. Any ideas?

Ive been thinking of doing something like this to feed my animals through summer, Its nothing new http://www.foddersolutions.org/technology I'll have to make my own version using aquaponics instead of hydroponics
I know your looking at human consumption but the same principals apply.

I think the only way to do it as already suggested is in trays.

Use a medium of 50/50 perlite/vermiculite and either:

1/ put them in a separate tray with AP water

2/ in the growbed making sure that the bottom of the tray gets wet on every flood cycle.

I grow my seed in this manner

You could always get a packet of seed and sprinkle it in a grow bed and see how much comes up. Then you would have your answer.

But if you do the seeding trays it might be easier for production purposes.

no need for a medium, this would only become a contaminant, put enough seed in the tray and it becomes the medium.

We've been growing quite a bit of sprouted wheat and other grains for our chickens and rabbits.

We use seedling trays and lay a sheet of newspaper down, then spread the seed and water each day with water from an AP system in a watering can. Takes about a week to get large wheat though other seeds like different bird mixes takes a while longer.

This was planted a bit too thickly, not germinating as quickly or as well, we found about 1cm of wheat worked well for us.
