My last job finished up a few years ago, so I spent a few months finishing off my AP book/dvd/cd package and started selling it online. Was ramping up and getting quite busy after the tv segment went on Gardening Australia and I began expanding getting the growbed mold made and designing new systems with a view to selling more than just the book package.

Missus said - Yeah but what are you going to do for a real job?

I said - This is a real job

Missus said - No it's not, you need to get a real job.

I said - But last week I earned more than you, and your a lawyer.

Missus said - That's not going to last, you still need a real job.

Well she was right in one way.. The initial rush of book sales did drop off.. But I'm a stubborn bugger and aquaponics now rules my life, and she doesn't anymore.... :D

Mine can't say too much about it as he brought me the setup - but he did try to sway me by offering me a family holiday in Thailand for a week or two instead. I took the AP system and the WA holiday :)

He hasn't said much about the fact that I'm now going to build an ibc system ('cause I need a hospital tank... ). He's already worked out that more growbed's are in store for future years presents and he didn't wince too badly. But he has specified exactly how much of the backyard I'm allowed to take over with it (none - it has to remain beside the carport on the paved area and the bins have got to be able to fit in beside it...)

Don't have an "other half" yet, the dating scene in my area is atrocious, but a love of the outdoors and of self-sufficiency is on my list of required traits for any partner I'd consider choosing.

Well seems we have had the trout too long and the missus has become too attached to eat them.

More for me....

my wife was not happy because I spent so much time building and adjusting my AP and not with her, also I killed shrimp and fish, she did not like that either. now we look at it every day and watch the plants growing. she says when we settle I can build a small system, but it has to be pretty.

Harsh reality Charlie and you'd better get over that attachment thing pretty quick. Trout will not live through hot weather so you have to do the kind thing and not let them suffer. If you get attached, and I know some people do, then you really need to be thinking goldfish or silver perch as they are a longer term proposition and be your pets (be they edible or not).

You should hear all the protests I get every time I decide to have fish for dinner. Whining and crying and "don't hurt the poor fish." What's strange is she doesn't even go outside and visit them, but when I've got to knock one off, suddenly she's their best friend.

Luckily once it's dead she has no problem cooking and eating it. I am planning on doing chickens and ducks in the future... I foresee difficulties.
