Read back on some of the threads here... apparently water fountain does help control the heat rise by a bit...

The advantage of a larger volume of water though is that it takes a while for it to heat up. A one off hot day as we often get in the spring shouldnt be a problem in your system.

Outside systems on 19 and 18 today with no shade. I am guessing be next thursday they could be hitting 25 but thats all good for me, with silvers and catfish and jades
Could have kept trout right through last summer in my 2000L system as it only hit 25 for one day

And bear in mind... that at the same time the oxygen demand of the trout is increasing with temperature rise.... the actual DO is decreasing towards about 50% of what it is at 20 degrees....

You are going to need ice tomorrow afternoon maybe, and definately on monday charlie. 2 big bags into 900 litres will drop around 2 degrees in total.

31 Sunday, 19 overnight, and then 36 on monday. Small systems will be finished. I'll be getting pretty close in my system too.

Do not feed your fish from today onwards if you want them to have a chance at living.

Am I clairvoyant as I predict the phone will be ringing next week with " some of my trout have died?"
I try to tell people they must monitor their water temperature and start harvesting their trout as the water nears 23 degrees, but I am often met with a response that says " I was wanting to wait until the end of October or something like that.
START HARVESTING NOW- I do not want to be hearing " I lost all my fish."

Just because the weather Sunday is hot for trout does not mean that it will be warm enough for barramundi from Monday onwards. For those new to aquaponics, do not rush in to putting small barramundi in to replace the trout, make sure the water is consistently above 20 degrees and that the barramundi fingerlings are no less than 15cm.
