that has a symbiotic relationship with blue/green algae inside its structure (cyanobacteria actually, it has nothing to do with agae. This sybiosis allows the azolla to produce it own nitrogen (cyanobac. abtains it from the N in the atmosphere) allowing it to grow in just plain old water.

Quote:
This rapidly growing pond cover provides protection for your pond dwellers, from the sun and those delightful fish eating birds.

Azola is a prodigous grower and a heavy feeder of fish wastes. The plant removes fish wastes and converts them to harmless nitrates

Bloke on eBay is selling it ...

the more textured stuff looks like azolla. Take what he says with a grain of salt, much of the nitrate banter there doen't make sense.

Azolla or duckweed ...

If you visit a local garden centre that has a few ponds and water plants lying around, they would probably pay you to take some of it away!

ROZ, as J7 says, I went to my local nursery and asked if he had any duckweed he wanted to get rid of - came away with a small bag of azolla and duckweed, loved to be able to get rid of it (good price too $0  )

The wife had other purchases that might have helped, but if you take along your own plastic bag there shouldn't be any probs
