From memory the most efficient pump in the under 1.5m of virtual dynamic head was one of oase pumps. Pricey but very good pumps.

Yes, I mention 0 head because I'm comparing apples to apples, i.e. both pumps are 6000 L/h at 0 head.

Do you mean that the pump may consume more electricity at different heads? I thought that the wattage was unchanged regardless of how hard it worked and it was just the output that suffered?

I'm no expert on pumps however...

Thanks for the suggestion OB. I was interested in the Laguna max flo, but this Aqua Nova Eco pump looks even better on paper than the Laguna, using far less electricity for a comparable output at zero head.

Do you realise that you won't be pumping at 0 head?

Wattage is directly related to impeller speed.
At 0 head height the impeller speed is the highest and you will find the pump probably draws more than what it is rated for.
As head height and pipe length increases, back pressure increases, causing the impeller to slow down and power draw to reduce.

Thanks Werdna, so you are a pump specialist in addition to being an Angle Grinder specialist :)

I found a Jebao Eco Tech pump which seems to have identical specs to the Aqua Nova Eco pump I mentioned earlier. I've heard good things about Jebao from OBO's previous posts, so perhaps I will go with it instead of the laguna which is about $100 more for the same LPH.

Hope Jebao is still OK!

Ha! Not quite!
Actually the power draw theory on water pumps I didnt believe until I tested it myself.
To me it made sense that the harder the pump had to work, the more power draw.
So not a specialist, just someone who doesnt like to be wrong!

The Jebao is as good as the laguna, but uses more power.

Over the life of the pump you'll save the $$ extra in space in lower running costs.

Hi OBO, is your assertion based on real life testing?

The jebao is rated as 60w vs 80w for the laguna, both for 6000lph.

Main difference is the warranty - 1 vs 3 years

Yes but you wont be using it at 0m of head. There is no point comparing apples with apples if you want a water melon :)

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with your posts but have you designed your system? if not do so and then we/i can help you work out the dynamic head snd then you will have better info on which to base your decision. There is no such thing as the best pump they need to be matched to the job you want them to do.

I use both jebao, laguna and yumcha pumps, and I wouldn't trust an eBay auction with more spelling / grammar mistakes than a year 2 child would make.

The jebao power max series generally use 20 to 50 watts more than the equivalent laguna max flo pumps. It would appear that the one in the eBay listing is either a new series of jebao pump, or they have used the specs of the laguna pumps to make the jebao look better.

Your more than welcome to browse my comprehensive threads and decide for yourself if I am talking from experience.

Just telling it like it is OBO. I have 4 Lagunas and this is the first one to cause trouble and some of the others are a couple of years old.

OBO - apologies, I've been reading so much that I sometimes forget that while I know a lot about your systems and experiences, that none of you know me, since I don't really post :)

I am very familiar with your experience and know you have used all these pumps. I was just asking whether you had actually measured the Jebao's performance using some kind of meter.

You're right that this Eco Tech pump is purported to be a new energy-efficient model. And it looks quite like a laguna :)

I have tested them with a clamp meter, and they draw the stated power.

4 x Pond Max 4000, running for 3 years 2 on timer, 2 on continuous. 60 watt.

4 x Laguna Max Flo 16000, running for 1.5 years, 2 on timer, 2 on continuous. 160 watt.

I just noticed that my Laguna that died was made in China where as the ones I have had going for a few years without problems are all Italian made.
