I'm shocked with the mathematical results of my estimated rain water collection.

According to THIS site
for every 1" of rain falling on 1sqft of area you'll get .52gal of water
for every 1mm of rain falling on 1sq meter you'll get .52gal of water

So my 12'x12' green house i'll capture approximately 3,354 gallons of water over a year. I considered capturing rain water off my house a few times but never did the calculations, my house will grab around 19,000 gallons. (40.88in yearly for me)

If i go off the gallons of water i need to replace in a year according to the BAYP efficiency test done which is %55. My current planned system is around 500 gallons GB & FT. So i only need 275 gallons. I'm just shocked how little water this system requires, and how much water is available to me with my current resources.

There is a lot of things we need close by to us. Some of us just need to open our eyes so we can see them.

I know, just in the last month I captured a bunch of rain water outside, and filtered and heated it, but I still have about 3 gallons leftover, and I'm hardly even trying to capture the rain, I just have one plastic garbage bin that I'm not using, so I've cleaned it out and set in on my balcony, and one plastic laundry bin, that I used to compost in, but i've cleaned it out and set in on my balcony. I'm only running two - ten gallon fish tanks, and maybe 1 to 2 gallon grow beds for my plants.

...so far...

I'm just amazed at how much water I've collected, and I love it when it rains! Kinda weird because I work at a hotel in a tourist area, so everyone hates it when it rains! lol

later,

jeff c
