I read your reference to TC's page on the Uniseal and I suggest that the next time you try to do a Uniseal you put a Uniseal over the pipe you want to use then measure the distance in the groove where it will fit against the wall. It sure sounds like the big hole is too small for the clearance of the Uniseal.

Hey Don:

The Uniseal specs tell you what size to drill the hole for proper sealing. The issue is the big pipes are really hard to get through.

Yep that is the place that Phillip Wolf set up an aquaponics system at. I don't know if Phillips spends much time over here, He does occasionally pop in on Aquaponic Gardening.

Don, I have the correct measurements for the uniseals. As Dave Donley says, it's all documented. This is all about the friction, baby! ;-)

Today, I installed the third uniseal in a row without any problems. The wood clamp, 2x6s to spread out the pressure, and K-Y seem to do the trick nicely. I took a video this time, I hope I'll get it posted this weekend.

OceanJeff38, I have videos up on Youtube. I won't put ads on them because I hate Youtube's ad system (really, tampon ads in front of EVERYTHING?? :pukeright:)

I've vaguely thought about doing some writeups, a booklet or something, but I don't think I would have anything to add that isn't already in either Joel's booklet, or the Friendlies (those are the only two I've studied closely). Why confuse the marketplace?

Um, the ads are targeted and based on the preferences of the person looking at them. I generally tend to see adverts for electronics and computers.

Interesting thing with our semi commercial trials we did, the biodigesters at the end of the trial, after growing out 350 trout in each system, had very little in the way of solids in the bottom of them, in fact, basically none..

Great work Karen.... :headbang:

Wonderful. Youtube knows I'm female and nothing else about me. :bootyshake:
I'd much prefer (and find useful) ads for electronics and computers... :headbang: :geek:

There aren't many books for Aquaponics, and a step by step of how you started your system could be incredibly useful!

Plus, even if someone has a book just like yours, competition is a good thing!

oh well,

jeff c

P.s. You are still very encouraging to watch! :)

Hi Karen! I'm new here, but I like the Howling Moose name. It's different, and I agree with toddscat, you can have a lot of fun with the name!
We just named our business after the town we live in, Velpen Aquaponics. We are in the process of seeking permits to process our fish once we start harvesting. Selling aquaponic kits to interested persons is one of our future goals, as well as supplies. And of course, our end product... veggies and fishies that are organically grown and safe to eat!
Good luck in your venture!

I ordered rainbow trout today, to be delivered sometime in the next two weeks!
200, 2-4", at $0.65 each.

I have more pics, and a new video (or two) to post here soon, but soooooo swaaaaaaammmmmped!

One of the reasons I haven't been around is that I went to the Lotus Music Festival last weekend, and now I'm obsessed with the band Movits! (pronounced MOE-vits). Swedish hip-hop/jazz/swing. Yes, really:

New video - tour of the greenhouse with two troughs nearly complete:

Next step: add aeration.
Next next step: build seedling tables
3rd step: two more troughs in this greenhouse.

Another nice video Karen. Do you think it will take some time for the nitrates to build up, looks like a ton of water volume to feed?
