Has it just started happening recently? From what I know, probably rain damage, which would make sense if it's recent, seeing the rains we've been having. I seem to remember something else about big temperature swings causing strawberries to split, we've had some day/night fluctuations lately... :dontknow:

If the strawberries are showing any red you could go ahead and pick them before they have a chance to split. They will ripen on the counter but may not look quite as good as ripened on the plant (taste great though). So many critters like strawberries around here that I sometimes have to do this.

I read this problem about tomatos and the cause was too much water! maybe the constant flood is no good for strawberries?

I've never heard of this happening with strawberries...very strange. It's possible they're getting too much water. Mine are in towers and they get water every 1.5 hours for about 7-8 minutes....

it's my first ever crop so yes it's recent. I think everyone is right about too much water being the issue.
