WOW!! Just found this website and am totally blown away by all the info! SUPER!!

I've been gardening organically for quite some time and am currently in the process of redoing my raised beds, building a small greenhouse from totally recycled materials. After all what can you build with eleven double-pane sliding glass doors 26" by 74"?

and just the other day I salvaged an 18 foot diameter, 48 inch deep swimming pool off of Craig's List....that's 5,455 gallons of water. :headbang:

Well that got me to thinking...garden...water...fish...fertilizer...water conservation...protein...fish? and then aquaculture and then discovered...aquaponics an interesting combination of all of the above.

Living here 5,000 plus feet above sea level in the semi-arid foothills of the Rocky Mountains limits access to good quality fish. Fish that hasn't been drop kicked all the way from the coast, the same applies our lettuce and other greens. Also there is the questionable safety of wild caught fish due to agricultural, industrial and toxic mining contamination as well as processing and other such concerns. The more I can do for myself the safer and better I feel I can take care of my family

So...thanks for the website, the forums here and opportunity to learn. Plus...I think this will be fun. :headbang:

THANKS

Hey,
Seems we in the US are all catching on to this a bit later than others. Your hardware looks great for a setup. But you will find building beds up to a height for that pool, or the risk of draining that pool from a sump to be a problem to overcome.
Not knowing your situation, I look forward to watching and learning another system up and running. I built my first system from 20-30gal tubs, cat litter trays a boat bilge pump(not recomended) and pvc.

Welcome Oaksprings! I'm pretty much just getting started in aquaponics myself. only had my system going for about 10-12 weeks and I'm already well on my way to building my second!!

I'm sure you too will find it as addicting as many of the members here have!
