Hey Dex, from memory, I think trout sink before they float. I think by the time they float they are abt a day dead and during that time releasing ammonia to the water.

I suggest you do a sweep with the net at the bottom of the tank daily. Get the sinkers before they become floaters.

Temp is 17-18 and never went over 22 in last weeks warm weather.
pH is 7.4
NH is basically zero
Rites are light blue (I've lost that card)
Rates are as low as I've seen them.

I wonder if my test kit is compromised. Too old, left in the sun, or maybe a top left off somewhere along the line? The tank water has a faint smell. I'm a bit under the whether right now so maybe I'm a bit sensitive, but it kind of makes me queezy. It looks oily on the surface too. Not mexico or anything but traces of a shimmer. I was going to try and salt but I didn't have much and wasn't sure the type so I made a 25L bucket up. Catching a fish to put in it eventually became less important than watching the footy. I'm worried something more insidious is at work here than hot water or low DO. Even though the water is still a little murky, it looks like that fluffy stuff on the dead ones belly might be on all the fish. I'm really worried about the 50 odd I have frozen now.

Dex.

Two days without a dead fish.
I haven't had time to check if it's because there are none left.

The boss' flower thingos were looking a bit sad because the sequencer was only working one shift again but all seems un-disasterous right now. I'll have a proper look tomorrow.

No fun losing fish.... We have been losing quite a few to birds lately, it's a bugger, they just slowly disappear from the system taken during the night..

Take it apart and wash it all out... probably a piece of grit or leaf/stem...

If I can find a timer to suit, I will put the 4 shift cam back in as the 2 shift isn't as steep and I think it might be contributing to my problems. Some times it doesn't sequence and occasionally it doesn't engage completely so all 4 beds run at once. If I was doing 1 bed per shift instead of 2, obviously there will be more flow and that might help the second issue. Both problems are solved easily by turning off the water and bouncing the button a few times to get it spinning again. It's just noticing it in time. I've had it appart quite a few times looking for dags on the cam surface and trying to make them as smooth as possible. If I had a 1 hour timer with 1 minute increments (or any set up that let me turn the pump off for 30seconds, 4 times an hour) I'd be set.

My first mission is to find some salt. The pool shop might be the place to start.

You can always use the #4 cam... and just pair the (opposite) outlets to the existing plumbing.... which halves the sequence interval...

i.e.. using a 15min mechanical timer... set to 15on/15off...

... port #1 goes to bed(s) #1
... port #2 goes to bed(s) #2
... port #3 goes to bed(s) #1
... port #4 goes to bed(s) #2

P.S... what pump are you using???... your problem sounds similar to another member... low flow...

The pump is a Uno. HCM-75LX. 62l/min. I have about 1 metre head to deal with.

I got 3 more out at morning tea. It's going to be hot today before some stormy weather. Water temp will probably go over 20 deg. Maybe I should harvest but I'm not that keen to kill sick fish.

Best info I could find for that pump was Uno Magnetic Drive Pump 3,180LPH @ 1m.... that's boderline flow rate for the aquaponics valve...

My callop looks very ill. Looking into the tank he looks white and splotchy. He was way too easy to catch.
I've got some salt now.

So your going the "cure em or kill em" route?

You've had a run of bad luck lately. Hope you get this figured out and things start looking up for you.
Good luck, man.

Barra coming tonight. Still disorganised. Air pump carked it. I've done a replumb so now I use the 2 uno pumps on 2 timers. Rush job. Fool proof I thought until one of the pumps was running hot today and when I pulled it apart it had a piece of blue gravel in the impeller.
I'm looking for a nice quiet air pump now (when I should be getting dinner ready) to use on 2000-3000L tank and this time I might seek some more advice on stones as the last one might have cooked because it had too few. I don't know how you tell.
