Hi all,

Here is a look at my set up. Its been a process but I'm getting there (I think)

FT IBC holding 750 ltr (40mm SOL to grow beds)
GB 2 x 340ltr with red scoria
ST 1 x 340ltr
Sump pump D10va (Davey) (15 on 45 off)
FT pump PM3000 (Pond Max) (30 on 30 off)
Air pump Maxima 1000 (30 on 30 off oppisite to FT pump)

Will have GB fill by the end of theis weekend and start pumping. Also I have got some goodness from a existing pond bio filter so I hope that will kick start the GB bacteria.

Cheers
Rich

Can you describe your system in some more detail? I am interested in why you have a sump and a fish tank pump.

Hi Arbe,

Cheers for the pic thing (yep me and computers get on well lol)

The Sump pump pumps up into the FT then gravity SOL into the grow beds and back to the sump.

The pump in the FT is just for airation (via a venturi) and also to provide a current to entertain the fish (trout). It may not be needed but I had it laying around.

Cheers

Rich

What is the power of the FT Pump and Air Pump?

It may be cheaper to just run your Air Pump 24 x 7 and not even use the FT Pump. For example: My water pump is 65w and my air pump is 20w. Obviously it is much cheaper to run the air pump rather than the water pump for aeration. (assuming they dissolve the same amount of oxygen)

Either way, you have a neat looking, well thought out system.

Hi RichD, I have a question, what are the growbeds? Are they black plastic inside a white frame/box or is it just painted on the outside?

Neat looking system, you may want to keep an eye on your SLO, thats rather small pipe coming out of your fish tank, most people tend to go 50mm pipe or bigger.

Hi EB,

GBs and Sump are poly pond liners, and have been painted on the outside. Am thinking of putting up a screen (bamboo/decking) round the GBs, not sure yet.

Sump has shade cloth over to stop the liner and water getting heated from the sun.

FT has been 12-15 deg.

SOL has been picking up so far but will keep an eye on it, an able to swap to bigger if needed.

Cheers

Rich
