Hey Bindy, my jades are in a 200L aquarium with a small canister filter, a 30L pressure filter and a small ABF. I reckon the filtration for the 22 jades is overkill but I had/made them so meh. Only got a 200W heater set on minimum and it keeps the tank at 18. I have a thread on it somewhere and will post some updates soon

come on give us the link!!!

Hey all,

I'm just seeing if anyone would be interested in jade perch in Dec 2011. This will run as a group buy nothing to do with my business at all, However i'm quite happy to facilitate it.

Ausyfish will have Jp's Available in December, They will be transported VIA Air Freight to Melboune Airport Same day, So I think it would be a good idea to make a meeting spot to organise the fish. We should be able to get them bagged into seperate Quantitys and Labeled.

Pricing go's Like this

50-100 - $1.54
100-500 - $1.10
500-1000 - 88c
1000+ 66c

Iv got a Quote on freight for 100 fish to Melb Airport is around $80 But will contact them when i get a few more numbers for a quote on the numbers were looking at.

Hi Jamey,

I'd be up for 100.

Will also be happy to offer up my place in Flemington as a central point for distribution. Just have to confirm which day in Dec.

Let me know what the details are when you can.

Hey guys is this offer still on? Seriously considering Jade Perch as an alternative to Silvers until next Winter comes again... Hope they will grow out fast enough!

You won't get them to table without getting them through one winter.

Jamey,
Put me down for 100 too,.
Will i be able to get them from your place, once they arrive.
My sump and fish tanks are in my shed, and cycling as we speak,
All up my system including growbeds,is 9000 litres.
The temp over last two weeks has not got down under 15,without a heater.
So going by that, maybe being inside, with only growbeds outside,is keeping the temps more stable.
Even on a couple of nights, when it got down to 3-4 degrees,it stayed at 15
I check the temps at 6am every morning, before the sun comes up.
Going by this i need a heater over winter of course, but my concern is,that even in summer,my temps may not rise much,,,,but hopefully enough to not have to heat through summer.
Will the growbeds outside ,in the summer heat, get it up to 22+, That said,i built the system to try jades.

So a definate yes to 100, but if your 50 short,to make 500,i will take extra 50.

Maybe they can bag them in lots of 100,so we don't stress them more, splitting them up.

Hey BNDYBEAR - thanks for the heads up. I hadn't yet read the first few pages of this thread and posted quickly as I didn't want to miss the deal.

I was enthralled after reading the following the Ausyfish site:

Code:
Jade Perch really seem to grow very fast compared to Silver Perch. Some growers have even said, twice as fast.

It should be noted that Jade Perch are very well suited to grow-out in recirculating systems. They make an excellent beginners species!

Ref: http://www.ausyfish.com/jade_perch.htm

Hmm... may be I'm dreaming too many dreams. The IBCs are still sitting in my garage and have yet to be cut.

I'm not yet ready to use heaters for fish :) If I had to heat in winter, I'd only do it once I've made a solar collector (builditsolar.com sub-$1000 style)... not yet ready for that yet.

This place is a wonderful place for learning. I learn new things everyday!

You could do them in an aquarium like mantis with a biofilter and 300w heater. Maybe get 25. I have a spare glass aquarium that the missus is bugging me to sell.

Hi guys, thanks for the information that this thread has provided.

My wife asked me to research Aquaponics after seeing it on TV and I found myself here. Thought I would look in the "Fish for Melbourne" section of the forum and found myself reading this thread.

I don't know the history of the "fish fights" you guys are speaking of, but I must say as a notice, I am so appreciative of all the information available about this particular species, including the requirement of heating, comparable species, etc.

Cheers,
Idzy

Silver perch and or catfish would be better and both will be available in Dec/Jan as fingerlings. Jades need to be purchased later in the autumn and overwintered in a heated aquarium/tank , then grown out in aquaponics over summer/autumn
