Yeah, you need the bigger ones. A mate rang TAFE and he told me they said they'll have 40mm ones available in mid-december.

Unfortunately, at that size, there's a fair chance you'll have to overwinter them and eat them at the end of the 2012/13 summer.

Yep, the same would be true for doing Barra in Victoria...

At least they have a chance at getting advanced Barra, early.... from SA...

Would probably be a better option than small Jades from QLD....

Even then.. I wouldn't recommend either...

Yep, got 20 a few days ago. . . . . lost one on the way home, my first death in custody since I started.

I just picked up 50 myself from GP.
Sizes ranged between 6-9cm.
Lost 3 in the drive home, but had a couple of extra thrown in.
Apparently they are just about to put the prices up to $5 ea

They are also selling advanced Barra at roughly the 15cm mark...
And have rainbow trout available again...just in time for the heat!

Hey Joel, I was a bit picky with them, most around 100mm. . . . the biggest one died on the way home so maybe I should have gone for some smaller ones
I checked the water they came in, not a very nice color of dark purple on the nitrite scale and was a bit whiffy to boot, but they did come from the tanks in the main part of the shop so it's to be expected I spose. I was surprised to see they had Yellow Tail Kingfish swimming around in a tank, imagine how big your tanks would have to be to grow one or two out to 40kgs and how much fun it would be to catch it in your backyard

Our SP's from Woodvale Fish & Lily Farm did not do well, I think we have a few left from 60! Also cost way too much. Our Koi from there are doing great though.

The Barra from Freo Tafe are all going strong. $1 each at end of August, they were about 4-5cm. I measured one today and it was already 12cm. Should be a good size come Autumn. I got a call from the guy at the Tafe the other day and they won't have anymore available until late Jan 2012. I hope the price & size are the same but as someone previously mentioned, they will need to be "wintered" to get them to plate size
