I see that livefish.com.au have freshwater sole for sale which of course are very edible.
Has anyone considered sole for their AP system? It appears from my very brief internet research that the main concern would be that they are night feeders and that if mixed with a robust species such as perch they might have trouble getting their share of food.
It would be very exciting if we could add another freshwater edible species to our bag of potential fish breeds.
I wonder if silver perch ect feed at night or sleep?
Perhaps some kind of automated feeder could be set up for the sole to operate at night time. The other consideration would be that they spend their days burrowed into a thcik layer of sand with their cute little eyes poking out.
cant remember where I heard it but apparently these guys are the only fish who are born with eyes on either side of their body and then when maturing one eye opos out of its socket and travels around to the other eye- giving them their 'flatfish' appearance. Cool!

Aeon.

Are these a fresh water version of flounder? Interesting. My only experience with flounder/sole is on the end of my spear night fishing with an underwater light  Delicious cooked whole of the barbie, flesh peels straight off the bone.

According to the oracle (wikipedia, that is) flounder and sole are of the same order of fish but in a different suborder re scientific classification but yes - they are both types of flatfish. Apparently the most widely eaten sole is a sea fish from dover. But who knows what sole we get from our sea food shops?

Mmmm, we call them flounder, I'm interested in sole too. They will eat muck etc, good for polyculture.

yep, the ones advertised by livefish.com.au are freshwater, and can handle freach to fairly brackish water. They arent cheap though - 16 bucks each and are thought to go out to sea to breed so we cant breed them easily at home.
